Music

Music is an important and exciting part of our curriculum. All children participate in singing and music-making activities in class, school assemblies and in whole school productions. In addition, all children get first-access recorder tuition provided by an external music teacher. There are opportunities throughout the school year for children to take part in extracurricular music clubs including singing, ukulele, recorder and handbell sessions. During class music lessons, the children learn to appreciate, compose and perform music and are introduced to notation. Children also begin to develop an understanding of the history of music, which is linked to units of work in History where appropriate.

Instrumental tuition is available through visiting tutors. At present, this includes the piano, drums and guitar. We have a limited number of instruments belonging to the school, which some children can borrow.  Most of the children do, however, have to purchase their own instruments and there are hired facilities available through major suppliers, which can be converted to a purchase agreement. The school uses private tutors and county peripatetic staff and charges have therefore to be levied for the lessons.
